Chile—the southernmost country in the world—offers us the unique opportunity to paddle its majestic Patagonian rivers from north to south.
During this 15-day adventure, we will explore some of the region’s most iconic rivers, including the Palguín, Fuy, and the dreamlike Futaleufú.
Road Trip in which we travel through the Chilean Patagonia from Pucón to Futaleufú. Get to know the rivers coming from the southernmost part of the Andean Cordillera.
NOVEMBER TO FEBRUARY
We’ll meet in the country’s capital. If arrival time allows, we’ll paddle the Maipo River, a Chilean whitewater classic. Otherwise, we’ll head straight south.
We travel to the heart of creek boating in South America. Here we’ll begin with the legendary Palguín, Puesco, Trancura, and Liucura rivers.
Our first experience with high-volume rivers. The Trancura (class III/IV), in both its upper and lower sections, helps us adapt to the Patagonian paddling style.
Boofs galore! This iconic section offers a technical yet safe creek experience.
We continue exploring the Palguín, now in its less-visited, and arguably most beautiful, section.
A travel and rest day (optional). We’ll visit the impressive “El Puma” waterfall, a 30-meter cascade previously run by local kayakers.
One of the group’s favorite rivers. With multiple sections to choose from, we’ll tailor the day to the group’s level to make the most of this whitewater gem.
Definitely worth repeating! We’ll explore a new section or focus on refining lines and technique.
We load the kayaks and embark on our journey to the legendary Futaleufú River, whose name means “Big River” in Mapudungun.
We embark on a journey taking different ferries where the Carretera Austral begins. We will enjoy the Patagonian landscape in its purest form.
We’ll spend our final paddling days on this world-renowned river, surrounded by mountains, wild nature, and the true spirit of Patagonia. We’ll also explore the charming town of Futaleufú.
We travel back to Pucón, where we’ll end the trip with a traditional Patagonian asado and share stories around the fire.
For many kayakers who have already discovered it, Chile is one of the most spectacular destinations on the planet. Our goal is for you to experience its rivers framed by the breathtaking landscapes of Patagonia.
Along more than 2,000 km of Andean mountains, we’ll explore the local culture, meet its people, and immerse ourselves in pristine nature as we paddle through crystal-clear waters surrounded by volcanoes, forests, and glaciers.
Safety is our top priority. We’ll choose rivers and sections according to group ability and current conditions. This journey is also a great opportunity to sharpen your safety skills: rope throws, mechanical advantage systems, scouting, and team paddling strategies.
The rivers in this program are Class III/IV. If your level isn’t quite there, we can adjust the difficulty. If you’re confident on Class III/IV, we can also include harder sections. The trip is flexible based on group needs.
There are slalom courses available at some points to improve paddling and safety techniques if we want a more relaxed afternoon.
Since this is a nature-based sport, river levels may vary. We’ll adapt to flows and weather to minimize surprises as much as possible.
