OETZ KAYAK CAMP

Kayaking in Austria

1-WEEK KAYAK CAMP ON AUSTRIA’S MOST FAMOUS RIVER

We’ve all heard of the legendary Adidas Sickline competition and its iconic Wellerbrücke rapid, located on the majestic Ötztaler Ache River in Austria.

In this Kayak Camp, we dive deep into exploring the Oetz River and its tributaries, including the mighty Inn River. We’ll discover its most iconic sections, paddle through world-class rapids, and connect with the local culture for an authentic and unforgettable experience.

LOCATION

Our base for this kayak camp is the Ötztal Valley in Austria. From here, we’ll move between various river sections and tributaries.

ITINERARY

Our first day is on the Inn River, flowing from Switzerland into Austria. It offers various sections perfect for getting to know the main valley.

On our first day paddling the Ötz, we’ll focus on the lower section—Class III/IV volume water, perfect for acclimatizing to glacial flow.

Depending on the group’s level, we’ll head to the upper section—a Class III/IV canyon with high-quality rapids.

If water levels allow, we’ll explore one of the Ötz’s main tributaries. The Venter Ache offers a beautiful Class III/IV section.

On day five, we’ll explore the upper section of the Venter Ache—a very alpine, narrow canyon with clean rapids.

On our penultimate day, we’ll paddle a higher section of the Inn—Class III/IV—featuring scenic valley views, long rapids, and wave trains.

Depending on water levels, we’ll revisit a section of the Ötz to get to know it more deeply. We’ll wind down and finish the trip with a traditional Tyrolean farewell dinner.

GOALS

In this beautiful whitewater camp, our goal is to discover rivers and valleys that have earned a legendary reputation in the whitewater community. The Ötz and its tributaries give us an authentic view of life in this corner of the Alps. We’ll enjoy charming alpine villages, local cuisine, and stunning cinematic landscapes.

SAFETY

We will paddle rivers suited to our skill level, always prioritizing the safety and integrity of every team member. We’ll also have the chance to practice rescue techniques like rope throwing and mechanical advantage systems, strengthening our river skills. Group scouting and navigation will also be part of the training to improve team safety.

ADDITIONAL INFO

The rivers in this program are Class III/IV. If your level isn’t quite there, we can adjust the difficulty. If you’re confident on Class III/IV, we can also include harder sections. The trip is flexible based on group needs.

There are slalom courses available at some points to improve paddling and safety techniques if we want a more relaxed afternoon.

Since this is a nature-based sport, river levels may vary. We’ll adapt to flows and weather to minimize surprises as much as possible.
