The Alps have been and will continue to be a global reference in the world of whitewater. Their deep and expansive valleys host rivers that offer a wide variety of sections for all levels—from crystal-clear waters to powerful glacial torrents.
Whether you’re navigating steep rapids or high-volume rivers, every section is a unique experience. Plus, the picturesque villages along the way will invite you to immerse yourself in their traditions and enjoy their exquisite local cuisine.
On this trip, we invite you to discover the magic of this imposing European mountain range from a unique perspective: through its rivers. Come paddle and experience the wild Alps!
The tour begins and ends in the French Alps. We’ll meet at the campsite that will serve as our basecamp for the first part of the trip.
For those continuing on their own, the tour can end in Morgex, Italy.
FROM MAY TO SEPTEMBER
The Alps can be visited from May to September depending on the region. For this program, we believe mid-June is ideal to paddle the rivers and ensure optimal water levels.
Explore the famous Guil in any of its sections.
The main valley where we stay in France offers different whitewater sections with glacial waters to enjoy.
One of the most beautiful tributaries of the Durance, offering continuous alpine river flow and scenic surroundings.
One of the most continuous “boulder garden”-style rivers, perfect to push our limits after warming up in previous days.
The classic section of the Ubaye on our fifth day offers both volume and boulder garden features—truly alpine and glacier-fed.
Travel to Italy and Rest.
On the penultimate day, we’ll explore the famous Dora Baltea River, born from majestic Mont Blanc. Its icy waters provide a one-of-a-kind experience.
Our final day includes a new section of the Dora depending on water levels—either higher or lower than the classic run—to celebrate the end of our journey with a grand Valdostan dinner!
Beyond paddling and discovering rivers, the goal of this trip is also to enjoy the local cuisine and culture while being surrounded by the majestic geological formations of the Western Alps.
We’ll focus on paddling rivers that match our skill levels, always prioritizing the safety and well-being of every team member. We’ll also have the opportunity to refine rescue techniques such as rope throwing and mechanical advantage systems, enhancing our river skills. Team scouting and navigation will also be practiced to improve safe group paddling.
The rivers included in the program are class III/IV. If your level doesn’t match, we can adapt the difficulty. Likewise, if the group has strong class III/IV skills, we can add more challenging sections. The program is flexible and can be tailored to group needs.
There are slalom courses available in a couple of locations for skill development or calmer sessions.
As with all nature-based sports, river levels may change, so the plan is flexible. We will adapt to conditions to ensure a safe and fun experience.
