ARA MAYENCO

KAYAK ON THE ARA RIVER

PADDLE THE ARA, THE LAST WILD RIVER IN THE PYRENEES

Ara Mayenco is a unique whitewater experience in the heart of nature—perfect for lovers of wild rivers. Located on the only major untouched river in the Pyrenees, the camp offers a stunning setting with waters flowing from the Bujaruelo Valley and the Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park.

For as many days as you want, we’ll be immersed in a mountain environment, paddling different river sections of various levels, improving our skills and technique, and enjoying outdoor life with shared meals, campfires, and a community passionate about water and nature.

LOCATION

Ara Mayenco is based at Camping Ordesa, on the banks of the Ara River and just a short distance from the charming village of Torla. From here, we enjoy privileged views of the majestic Mondarruego, right in the heart of the Aragonese Pyrenees.

While our base is in the upper part of the valley, the river runs and courses are adapted to the group’s level, exploring different sections of the Ara River. In addition to the upper stretches, we also paddle through the lower valley areas, such as the spectacular Jánovas Canyon—discovering the richness and diversity of this wild river throughout its entire course.

DATES

ALL THROUGH MAY — YOU CHOOSE THE DAYS

OBJECTIVES

In these spring months, our goal is to enjoy the snowmelt and make the most of the Ara River at its peak. As passionate defenders of the Aragonese Pyrenees and the Ara River, we want to share with everyone the beauty of its waters, its natural surroundings, and its cultural and culinary richness.

It’s much more than just paddling: it’s a way to connect with a living, authentic valley full of history.

SAFETY

As always, safety is one of our top priorities. During the camp, we’ll learn how to paddle safely, explore various rescue techniques, and foster both individual and team support.

We’ll also work on scouting techniques at the main rapids, learning how to read the river and understand its dynamics so we can navigate every section with flow, good judgment, and safety.
